Driving Positive Change

CORPORATE SOCIAL INVESTMENT

Our approach to social responsibility is rooted in a commitment to people, transformation and meaningful community impact. We believe that long-term value is created not only through property investment but also through genuine social engagement.

With most of our properties located in South Africa’s township and rural communities, we are uniquely positioned to promote transformation and inclusive economic growth. Through targeted and sustainable initiatives, we aim to uplift residents while contributing to long-term social and economic development.

We invite you to explore our initiatives and join us on the journey toward positive change, whether by participating in our programs or connecting with our networks.

Education is our future

We know that giving is more than donating, it is about making a difference! With this mindset we embarked on a journey in 2020 taking hands with Education is our Future (NPO 160407) who is involved in the upliftment of literacy in rural schools. Their mission is to encourage and improve education primarily in township and rural areas, with the goal of developing future leaders for the country. All learners should have a chance at learning.

BOIKETLONG CHRISTIAN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Boiketlong Christian Primary School is located in Sebokeng, near Thabong, and currently accommodates approximately 700 learners from the nearby squatter camp along Moshoeshoe Street. The school is in dire need of support.

In January 2025, Safari Investments launched an intervention programme at Boiketlong, assisting teachers with worksheets and creative learning opportunities. Education is Our Future donated gently used books, while Safari coordinated with other schools to collect pre-owned stationery at year-end.

To mark Mandela Day 2025, Safari sponsored a mobile library unit stocked with 200 books and provided a toner for the photocopier. Tenants from Thabong Shopping Centre continue to donate reams of photocopy paper on a regular basis.

These items were officially handed over at a celebration event where Library Champions were introduced and received their badges. Learners were also entertained by Lethabo, the friendly Zebra Mascot—a first-time experience for many, met with overwhelming excitement.

As part of the day’s activities, the Safari team, together with local organisations, painted the school’s entrance wall and gate, creating a brighter and more welcoming environment for the learners.

Regular events at the school, including Women’s Day celebrations, Spring Day jumping castles, and Award Ceremonies, form an integral part of the intervention programme, ensuring ongoing support and encouragement for both learners and teachers.

TOWNSHIP ENTREPRENEURS ALLIANCE PARTNERSHIP

Our commitment to fostering entrepreneurship remained a central focus of our community empowerment initiatives. Through targeted partnerships, training programmes, and the creation of supportive platforms, we equipped both aspiring and established entrepreneurs with the tools and resources needed to grow their businesses.

This included strategic collaborations with organisations such as the Township Entrepreneurial Alliance (TEA), Shape Cafe, Emfuleni and Thyme Delite. From supplier development workshops, business support sessions and entrepreneurial markets, our efforts were designed to unlock opportunities, inspire innovation and drive sustainable growth within township economies.

The Township Entrepreneurial Alliance (TEA) plays a key role in empowering township- based businesses through knowledge sharing, skills development, enterprise support and market access. In 2024, Safari partnered with TEA founder Bulelani Balabala to host an impactful events at Thabong Shopping Centre in Sebokeng. At each event, Five entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to a live audience, with winners receiving business support packages valued at R50 000, sponsored by Nedbank. This events attracted more than 350 delegates each and created valuable networking opportunities. The speaker lineup featured experts in sales strategies, technology innovation and Nedbank’s design-led initiatives. In addition, practical sessions introduced participants to e-commerce tools and simple digital solutions to help streamline and scale their businesses.

This was followed by an invitation to exhibit at Thabong Shopping Centre during month-end trade, with additional exhibition opportunities created at Shape Café in June 2025. With the help and support of Built‐it and Reno Race (SABC 1) some structural and electrical construction problems around the building were fixed and the rooms and bathrooms were renovated.

We also partner with small-scale farmers and home-based crafters, offering them market access within the centre. Through these ongoing efforts, we remain committed to being a positive, active force.

RENOVATION OF SEBOKENG OLD AGE HOME

In 2019, Thabong Shopping Centre and Reno Race SABC1 renovated the living room, dining room, and kitchen of the Sebokeng Old Age Home. Following the riots in 2021, the home was unable to purchase food or cleaning materials from any shopping centre in Sebokeng. Safari purchased food and cleaning supplies from Denlyn Superspar in Mamelodi and transported them to Sebokeng. The residents were overwhelmed by this generous donation. Since then, Thabong Mall has continued to support the Sebokeng Old Age Home during the Christmas period by providing essential items, along with a few extras to add some sparkle to the festive season.
